The Milton Ulladulla first grade side started their season against Shoalhaven United on Saturday.
Having lost Blake McClusky to injury on Thursday night after a training mishap the lads were keen to put in a big performance and take out the win.
From the opening the whistle the game was fairly fast paced and united controlled the early goings An injury to Jarrod Murray after about 6 mins put a big dent in the team. Thank you to Josh Twitchen who came on after playing a full game in reserve grade to take his spot. Minutes later Rhys Wilson managed to get on the end of a free kick to head home the first goal of the season (which I admit I didn’t see as I was assisting Jarrod). The game went backwards and forwards till a very dubious penalty was awarded to United on the strike of half time. Kevin Castle done his best and got a touch to the ball but United equalised 1-1 into the half time break.
Second half started off without Rhys Wilson, who succumbed to a groin injury and the boys dug in very deep and withheld everything United threw at us. Milton held on at the end for a very deserved 1-1 draw.
Huge games from everyone in the team, Zach Pullinger was voted players player with special mention to Jack Begg and Chris Karacsonyi and Kevin Castle for some outstanding play. I would also like to thank Blake Sommerville and Joel Kemp for playing almost all of the second half and putting in a great effort.
We need a bit more commitment from our lower grades to help fill benches guys, 3rd grade need to help reserves and reserves should be all putting there hands up for first grade bench. This must be better next week.
Next week Milton Senior Men head up the highway to face Illaroo in what should be a cracker of a match up.
Cheers,
Toddo
