Primary Girls Match Report 22/08/2020

Thirteen players braved the cooler conditions for the Primary Girls’ game at Lighthouse Oval on Saturday, 22nd August. Many ran on wearing warm tops and hoods but with both teams soon making runs and having shots at goal, it wasn’t long before long sleeved clothes were discarded and the game was in full flight.

Reds and  Blues both made attacking runs and had chances to score but no success.

Play settled and there was more thoughtful passing and teamwork by both sides.

Goalies for the first half, Milla and Amelia, made clever saves and gave their teams good opportunities when they sent the ball back into play by long goal kicks.

Second half goalies, Matilda, Evie and later Skye, continued with many great saves when under pressure.

Referee, Lindsay, ran two halves so the girls experienced time in the forward line and in the back line. Abby played across the middle, first for Blues and then for Reds, doing a great job with her long kicks and scoring.

Red team players were:

Aurelia - a close shot and good clearing. Milla - penetrating runs and scoring.

Charli - clever defensive stops. Iluka - good cover and clearing. Evie - confident hassling and a great cross. Skye - long attacking runs and shots.

Blue team players were:

Jasmine - speedy runs and clever lifts. Amelia - quick touches and scoring. Olivia - strong clearing kicks and forward pressure. Rosie - great crosses and team passes.

Matilda - fearless defence. Anahera - running to the ball and accurate crosses.

Well done all players and while the result was a win for the Reds, 4-3, it was a fair and well fought game, which could easily have gone the other way.

Next week’s game will see other girls playing goalie positions and all players can now begin to think about the position that is their strongest.

Thanks again to the club officials who set the field up and to those who remove and return equipment after the game. Thank you Lindsay for refereeing. Final thanks to all who have been adhering to the current COVID restrictions re parent supporters at the game. Last but not least, good luck to all club teams for their remaining games of the season.

Remember training is on Friday at 4:00, our game is on the usual time of 10:00 on the usual field.

Joke for the week: What are successful forwards always trying to do?

                                 Reach their goals!
