The Primary Girls did it again! Eighteen girls played in brilliant August weather last Saturday at Lighthouse Oval in a very entertaining match for their enthusiastic spectators.
The game began in fast pace with the Blues on fire and scoring early. It looked as though the game would be theirs as further goals were scored by their forwards after brilliant defence by their mids, backs and goalie.
However, with a number of goals behind, the Reds retaliated and after a couple of runs and wide shots, they were rewarded with a couple of successes.
With twenty minutes remaining and still trailing, the Red team put the Blues under pressure and attacked with determination to quickly score further goals. The game was excellent proof that
'Quitters never win and winners never quit !'
Well done to all the girls, whose efforts at training are paying off in match play.
Reds were Iluka, Amelia and Charli on the right, Matilda, Georgie and Rosie on the left and Jaya, Abby and Aurelia playing centre and having turns in the goalie position.
Blues were Evie, Penny and Skye on the right, Milla, Anahera and Aanya on the left and Olivia, Jasmine and Alana in the centre and taking turns as goalie.
First time goalies showed confidence and made some excellent saves, while coach Gwen was pleased with greater determination in tackles and better position work.
Thanks to our referee and net removers as well as to the club officials for their work.
Fingers crossed for decent weather for Friday's training at 4:00 p.m, and 10:00am for the match on Saturday (on the usual field).
Soccer Joke of the week:
Why can't Cinderella play Soccer?
Because she always runs away from the ball!
